• The Old Man And The Sea

The last major work of fiction to be produced by Ernest Hemingway and published in his lifetime, The Old Man and the Sea centres upon Santiago, and old Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. The novella was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and was cited by the Nobel committee as contributing to the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Ernest Hemingway in 1954. This critical study explores and analyzes the multi-layered novella and its various interpretations. A number of critical and textual problems have additionally be tackled for the benefit of our university students as well, making it the most comprehensive assessment of Hemingway and one of his most famous literary works. Shakti Batra has been Vice-principal, Dyal Singh College (University of Delhi), has also taught at the Kabul University and the University of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek.
