About the book

E. Echu Konyak's book, Folktales of the Konyak Nagus is a very important collection. It is evidently a labour of love. The contents of the tales are fascinating and range from migration narratives to origin tales and shared stories such as that of a dark time told by other tribes.

Easterine Kire Writer, Kohima, Nagaland.

E. Echu Konyak's Folktales of the Konyak Nagas is a commendable pioneering work that has emerged from the heart of a young Naga scholar passionate about preserving the stories of our folk. Such stories are fast disappearing as its carriers - the older generation, race against time and their own memories. By retrieving these tales from the treasure houses of the village elders, the author gives us a glimpse of the native worldview and ancestral wisdom preserved in our oral traditions. The 28 tales in this collection are a treasure. They need to be heard, read, told and retold by young and old alike.
