About the Book:
This volume brings together the writings of a few conscious Naga Scholars, Activists, Professionals and members of Civil Societies who are veritably embedded in the democratic rights movement. The past six decades of Naga political resistance and resultant armed conflict have produced pervasive human rights violation in the state of Nagaland and other Naga inhabited regions. The book draws attention to various types of Human rights issues through experiential articles from various perspectives. The present compilation of articles reveals how peoples' struggle against institutionalized violence and calls for establishment of a 'true democracy' is negated in various ways. Psychological and Biblical analysis of the conflict situation also finds coverage in the book. It draws attention to the voices of Naga women today whose situation can best be described as 'a struggle within the struggle' in the form of women's effort to assert their inherent rights within the ambivalent patriarchal structures and militarization. Besides, the book also focuses on one of the most pressing Environmental issue confronting Naga society today. The volume will be an insightful resource for students, researchers and activists in their quest to better understand the dynamics of Human rights, conflict, gender issues and democracy in contemporary Naga society. It will also serve as an invaluable reference for activists and policy makers who seek to understand the emerging paradigms of Human Rights in Nagaland.
